Give the Gift of Sight- Where Hope is Visible
Approximately 12 million people 40 years and over in the United States have vision impairment. According to the Centers for Disease Control Vision Health Initiative , it is estimated that half of visual impairment and blindness can be prevented through early diagnosis and timely treatment.
The world-renowned physicians and vision scientists at Southern California Eye Institute (SCEI) are dedicated to providing you and your family with the highest quality of eye care services. Our work is both evolutionary - building on discoveries that came before - and revolutionary - making quantum leaps that ignite breakthrough solutions. The result: new progress, new possibilities and new hope.
Groundbreaking epidemiologic studies led by SCEI Director, Dr. Rohit Varma, are yielding important information about visual impairment and eye health in America. With funding from the National Institutes of Health and other esteemed organizations, Varma and his research teams produced the largest-ever studies in the U.S. on eye disease and their impact on Latinos, Chinese Americans, African Americans and children of multiple ethnicities.
Recent SCEI innovations include:
- Dr. Rohit Varma performs first ClearPath glaucoma surgery in Los Angeles
- Launch of the Ophthalmic Technician Education Program (OTEP). The only program of its kind in California and one of 14 in the U.S.
- Opened the first dedicated hospital-based ophthalmic operating room in Los Angeles County
We invite you to support this work, from expanding breakthrough research in the field to providing for high-risk, high-impact studies, and beyond.
